TONYC Festival 2023: Workshop: "Answering the Call"
Update as of Friday, September 29, 10:30am ET: Answering the Call Workshop has been postponed due to inclement weather. Registered attendees have been contacted via email. As of right now, TONYC is planning to proceed with Saturday's scheduled festival lineup. We hope to see you there!
The joker-actors of Theatre of the Oppressed NYC’s Rapid Response Troupe will model how they design and prepare TO presentations for non-theatrical events in collaboration with NYC’s activist, academic, and social justice communities. This includes an evaluation of the performance opportunity, selection of games and scenes from their repertoire that will engage and activate the spect-actors based on location, event size, and the relationship of the spect-actors to the scene topic, and who will take on which roles, based on availability.
TONYC raises grant funding so that the troupe can show up for critical events, at no cost or sliding scale (based on access to resources). The Troupe was launched in 2018 with the intention that directly impacted actors could receive a call and gather quickly to facilitate games and perform to a variety of gatherings: a rally, a demonstration, a hearing, a school walkout, you name it.
Please note: This event is in-person only.
