The Drawing Center: The Nature of the Crime

The Nature of the Crime

We’re not just pieces of paper to be processed; we’re not two-dimensional characters in a crime drama. Our lives are complex and our motivations are rich — and yet we become collateral damage in a system built to dehumanize us and continue to punish us even after we have served our allotted time.

This remount of The Nature of the Crime is a part of The Drawing Center's The Pencil Is a Key: Drawings By Incarcerated Artistsan exhibition of historical and contemporary drawings by incarcerated people from all over the globe. Works by artists who were or currently are prisoners will be juxtaposed with drawings by prisoners who became artists while incarcerated.
