Training Workshop: Cops in the Head/Rainbow of Desire

Dates: Saturday-Sunday, October 15th-16th: 10AM-5PM
Location: Long Island City, Queens, NYC (address will be sent to registered participants)

Training Description: Cops in the Head and Rainbow of Desire are theatre exercises from Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed. These techniques can be used to explore internalized oppression and effect positive change in a variety of spaces, including the workplace, community organizing, and youth development. This training is recommended for teachers, mental health workers, activists, and artists of any discipline interested in personal and social change.

In Cops in the Head, we examine internalized power structures in our communities by externalizing forces of oppression, or "cops," and then theatrically brainstorm ways to counteract them. In Rainbow of Desire, improvisations enable us to act out conflicting desires and explore strategies for taking action. No theatre experience is necessary.

*Note: TONYC requests that participants attend the entirety of the workshop. Please email us if you are not able to attend the full workshop.

Facilitated by John Leo & Elizabeth Morgan.
