May Workshop: Cops in the Head for Gatekeepers

Workshop: Cops in the Head for Gatekeepers

Facilitated by:  Becca Lynch, Max Freedman, Charles Whitewolf (see more info on our Who's Who page)

This three-hour workshop adapts the Cops in the Head technique described in Augusto Boal’s Rainbow of Desire, in which participants act out internalized voices of oppression or privilege (aka "cops") that stop them from taking the right action. For this workshop, participants will share stories about serving in a "gatekeeper" role, with limited but still significant power. We will rehearse using this role to work for social justice.

Help us bring this workshop to the annual Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed (PTO) conference in June! We will be conducting two sessions in New York to cover our team's registration and travel costs.

Dates: This workshop is offered on two separate dates. The same workshop will be conducted each of these days.

  • Saturday, May 12th from 4-7PM
  • Sunday, June 3rd from 5-8pm

Location: Midtown Manhattan (address & directions will be sent to workshop participants)

Sliding-scale fee: $30.00-$60.00 (or more!) requested upon registration. As this is a fundraiser, these fees support the facilitators’ attendance at the 2018 Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed Conference, including conference registration, lodging, and travel! We're grateful for your support. *Workshop fees are refundable up to 1 day before the workshop. **If you would like to make arrangements for payment installments, please email TS Hawkins at [email protected].
