Healing Through Unity: Theatre Workshop

In partnership, Harlem Wellness Center, Harlem Library and Theater of the Oppressed NYC (TONYC)mpresent a workshop in recognition of the AANHPI community.

All are welcome to explore, play and discover: Absolutely no theatre experience necessary.

In recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage, you are invited to join HWC, Harlem Library and TONYC for a collaborative event uplifting community, culture, connection and the power of healing through unity.

This in-person event facilitated by Theater of the Oppressed NYC is an interactive embodied movement and theater workshop that promises to be a memorable experience filled with heart-centered, creative, fun, thought-provoking, and action-oriented activities while highlighting themes that center the AANHPI experience as well as our interconnectedness and shared humanity.

About Theater of the Oppressed (TONYC):

Inspired by Augusto Boal and Paulo Freire’s work, TONYC utilizes theater arts to challenge and confront economic inequality, racism, and other social, health and human rights injustices. Participants engage in theatrical brainstorming – called Forum Theatre – with the aim of catalyzing creative change on the individual, community, and political levels.

Please arrive 15 minutes before start-time.

The experience will be an opportunity to share power and build trust, equipping you with tools to educate, empower, and mobilize others in new ways. This will lay the foundation for collectively brainstorming actionable next steps in the face of interpersonal conflict or institutional injustice. Each activity and debrief discussion is designed to help communities reflect deeply about the status quo and how we maintain or change it.
