Intro to Theatre of the Oppressed

February 13, 2025 - From 6p to 8p

Creativity is the key to transformation. An Intro to Theatre of the Oppressed workshop will allow you to experience the power of embodied play!  Our experienced facilitators will lead you through a series of games, discussions, and role-play improvisation. The experience will be an opportunity to share power and build trust, equipping you with tools to educate, empower, and mobilize others in new ways.  This will lay the foundation for collectively brainstorming actionable next steps in the face of interpersonal conflict or institutional injustice. Each activity and debrief discussion is designed to help communities reflect deeply on the status quo and how we maintain or change it. 

Intro to Facilitating Forum Theatre (Level 1)

April Session Dates:

• ONLINE: April 7, 14, 21 (Monday evenings from 5:30p-8:30p) 
• IN PERSON: April 26-27 (Saturday & Sunday from 12-5:30p)
•  Registration will open in January

August Session:

• Dates will be announced in February
  

Sliding scale: $300-$700

Our 2025 Level 1 training will introduce participants to TONYC’s process of creating forum theatre performances. Via separate online and in-person sections, we will explore TONYC’s Wildcard Workbook, and demonstrate the activities! This training is for community organizers, artists, and engaged community members who plan to apply to Forum Theatre to engage groups in action toward social change. Please note: Level 1 as an introduction focuses on facilitators modeling TONYC’s best practices for participants.  For deeper practice doing your own facilitation, look out for our TBA Level Up Series (previously Level 2).

Multiply our Money!

All season long, we’ve been fundraising and fighting to throw uppercuts to budget cuts - and last month a donor jumped in the ring to add some extra POW to our punch. They’ve placed a ringside bet on TONYC to the tune of $10,000 as a matching gift. And what’s more - this match is 2:1, meaning that for every one dollar donated, TONYC will receive a total of three. 

When fighting injustice, the best chance we’ve got is to fight together. So please consider helping us get in one more fundraising knockout before we clock out of 2024!
