TONYC at Barclays Center for #FairFares Rally!

Mar. 20, 2017

On Sunday, March 19th, in light of the MTA fair hike, TONYC tuned in and turned out at Barclays Center for another #FairFares rally and action.

Together, with dozens of New Yorkers, Riders Alliance NY and many other organizations we made the need for affordable transportation loud and clear.

TONYC team members, Letitia, Charlie, Devyn, and Becca attended the rally and talked with press, onlookers, and NYC council members including Carlos Menchaca, Ydanis Rodriguez, and Mathieu Eugene, to make their voices heard. During the press conference portion of the rally, Council Member Carlos Menchaca said "Public transit can't be public if the public can't afford it."

Letitia and Charlie spoke with media outlets including 1010 Wins and The New York Post. “For me, it’s either groceries or a fare,” explained Letitia Bouie of East New York. “Either you have to walk where you’re going and eat — or go without a meal that day. I just can’t talk about it anymore. I need to be out here doing something about it.” Check out more in the article on The Post, here!

We’re excited to be spreading the word on this important and urgent campaign and to have Riders Alliance NY as comrades and allies in our work, and we are looking forward to seeing policy change surrounding this subject soon!
