Photo Roundup: The Gaza Monologues

Nov. 30, 2023

On November 29th, approximately 120 attendees gathered for TONYC's collaborative presentation of "The Gaza Monologues” on the Violeta Parra Stage at The People’s Forum.

In response to ASHTAR Theatre's urgent request to its friends and theater-makers around the world to publicly read or perform "The Gaza Monologues" — testimonies written by ASHTAR youth in 2010, highlighting the fears, hopes, and resilience of Gazans — on The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, TONYC presented a free live reading of the monologues in English, Arabic, and Spanish. The program included a land acknowledgment by Opalanietet, a statement from the Palestinian Youth Movement read by Liz Morgan, and opening remarks by Leila Buck, as well as pre-recorded video remarks by Iman Aoun, Executive Director of ASHTAR Theatre and creator of the Gaza Monologues, and Ali Abu Yassin, theatre director in Gaza. It concluded with a brief discussion facilitated by Beto O’Byrne from Radical Evolution, identifying activism resources and organizing opportunities. Donations to ASHTAR Theatre's psycho-social relief intervention program in the West Bank were and are encouraged.

This event was presented in partnership with ASHTAR Theatre, Friends of ASHTAR Theatre NYC, Radical Evolution, The People's Forum, and the Palestinian Youth Movement.

We invite you to continue to share the recording and join actions to support a ceasefire.
